The Government Engineering College, Wayanad is an engineering college established and managed by the Government of Kerala, India. It was inaugurated by the Hon. Education Minister, Mr. P.J.Joseph on 17th Jan 2000 with an intake of 60 students each in Computer Science and Electronics and Communication Engineering.
The college started working on the Govt. College campus Thonichal. In 2007 the college was relocated to its own campus at Thalappuzha, 6 Km from Mananthavady.
In 2010 a new course on Electrical and Electronics Engineering started with an intake of 60 students. A M.Tech course in Communication Engineering & Signal Processing started in 2011 with intake of 18 students. Another course on Mechanical Engineering and an additional batch for Electronics & Communication Engineering were started in 2014 with an intake of 60 students each. The college also got a new M.Tech course in Computer Network & Security with an intake of 18 students and an evening B.Tech course in Electronics & Communication Engineering in 2014.
- Intercollegiate table tennis tournament ( 2013 - 2014 ) runners up.
- Archery championship ( 2013 - 2014 ) second place.
- Chess championship ( 2013 - 2014 ) second place.
GEC Wayanad secured 2nd rank in Computer Science & Engineering and 3rd rank in Electronics & Engineering in B.Tech examinations for the year 2010 - 2014.
