Odometer Connection

• The primary function of an odometer connection is to measure the distance traveled by a vehicle
• The odometer connection in a gearbox is used to measure the distance traveled by a vehicle. In a car, a gear engages the output shaft of the transmission, turning the cable
• The cable usually spins inside a protective metal tube with a rubber housing. The cable snakes its way up to the instrument panel, where it is connected to the input shaft of the odometer
• The odometer then uses a series of gears to achieve its gear reduction and accurately count the miles traveled by the vehicle
• For mechanical odometers, the connector is usually a flexible cable made from a tightly wound spring. On the other hand, electronic odometers use digital displays to show the distance travelled by a vehicle
